Energy
During the last few years, we have invested in modern manufacturing technology to reduce the consumption of energy throughout the manufacturing process. This, coupled with other initiatives throughout the company is helping us to lower our energy use.
- We have reduced the energy used in glaze firing through the use of ThermECO glazes, which are 100% lead free and produced locally by Endeka Ceramics Ltd.
- Our 'Bung-firing' techniques ensure the maximum number of items is placed for each firing, reducing the frequency of fires
- We have installed two new fast-fire kilns, which are more energy efficient than traditional methods of firing
- Switch if off' when not in use policy is company-wide, including machinery, computers, printers and lights
We are constantly trialling new initiatives to reduce energy consumption. Motors on machinery in the cup shop have been modified, so instead of running constantly throughout a shift, they only run when needed. This has not only reduced the energy consumption of each motor, but has also cut down on the part replacement level. Following this successful trial, there are plans to introduce 'efficiency dynamics' to more production areas.
