Workplace

Dudson has held the Investors in People standard since 1997 and has been re accredited several times. This award illustrates the company's commitment to encourage employees to realise their full potential. More than 100 current employees have completed more than 20 years' service.

Substantial investment in training and development provides opportunities for all to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Many employees have benefitted from internal development programmes, including bespoke leadership and management development courses, whilst more than 20% of the workforce has completed an NVQ.

The Dudson Employee of the Quarter scheme gives the company the chance to reward hard work and outstanding achievements, with nominations made through the management team. In addition, the company Suggestion Scheme gives every employee the chance to contribute innovative ideas for improvement throughout the business.

Cross functional teams in health and safety and the environment provide platforms for employee contributions in these specific areas, while a works committee encourages open communication between the shop floor and management.

Internal communication is an integral part of the continuous improvement culture. Regular teambriefings provide information regarding business performance, environmental initiatives and future plans, whilst annual Personal Development Reviews provide a forum for honest feedback.

We enjoy a productive working relationship with the trade union Unity, and meet with representatives on a monthly basis to safeguard and improve the working environment.

In the interest of promoting green issues, we work with the local city council to encourage workers to use eco-friendly methods of transport such as car-sharing, public transport and cycling.

The company is a founder signatory to the Ceramic Industry Health and Safety Pledge and since the introduction of the Health and Safety Improvement Team in 2006,accidents have been reduced by almost 48% (in a comparison of statistics from 2005 and 2009.)
